February 18, 1999 · 7:14 AM · Los Angeles, a made-up person. Sun 29°30′ Aquarius, Mars 8°02′ Scorpio, Black Moon Lilith 18°02′ Scorpio. Pluto walks the 11th house now (Placidus); birth Pluto sits in the 9th.

What a Pluto transit actually does to you

Nothing in the zodiac moves slower than Pluto. As the modern ruler of Scorpio, it governs power, obsession, control, and the craving you only admit at 2 a.m. A Pluto transit is not a forecast of outside disasters. It is the slow, grinding pressure that brings your ugliest survival habits to the surface.

Every year in May, Pluto turns retrograde, then goes direct in October. It spends about five months moving backward and advances only about 1.5° a year through Aquarius. When it touches a degree in your birth chart, it does not tap and leave. It parks within a degree for a year or more, crossing the exact same point three or even five times.

On the first pass, you notice what you cannot stand anymore. You sit at the kitchen table re-reading an old message thread, realizing you only stayed in the room to win. During the retrograde pass, you try to put the mask back on and pretend you are fine with half a loaf. By the final pass, the pretending is over. You delete the shared calendar, change your password, and stop explaining yourself.

Where Pluto touches your chart, polite compromises rot. You either hand over the steering wheel or admit you want the whole road to yourself. You type out a polite excuse to keep the peace, stare at the screen, and backspace the whole thing. The transit strips away the nice story you tell your friends until only your raw appetite remains.

Pluto in Aquarius from 2024 to 2044

The sign change took almost two years to lock in. Pluto first dipped into Aquarius on March 23, 2023, backed into Capricorn on June 11, 2023, and returned on January 21, 2024. After sliding back to Capricorn on September 1, 2024, it entered Aquarius for good on November 19, 2024. It stays in this fixed air sign until it steps into Pisces on March 9, 2043. Then it retrogrades into Aquarius on September 1, 2043, and enters Pisces for good on January 19, 2044. The last time Pluto walked Aquarius was April 4, 1777 to December 26, 1798.

While Pluto spent its years in cardinal earth Capricorn, power belonged to titles, bosses, and whoever sat at the top of the org chart. Aquarius is fixed air, ruled traditionally by Saturn and modernly by Uranus. Power moves sideways now. It lives in the network, the group chat, the algorithm, the feed, and the unwritten rules of who belongs.

Watch how people police each other in public comments while terrified of being exiled from the group themselves. Nobody needs a boss to threaten them when the crowd can freeze them out before breakfast. You watch five people in a group thread wait for the loudest voice to react before they dare to type an opinion. Under Pluto in Aquarius, the nastiest control wears the costume of community standards.

Your own shadow shifts to match the sign. You care less about impressing an authority figure and obsess more over your reach, your circle, and who has access to you. You curate your public face down to the syllable while keeping your real motives offline.

How to read your Pluto transit tracker

The tracker above checks three hard aspects between transiting Pluto and your natal Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, Ascendant, and mean Black Moon Lilith. It uses a tight 1° orb. A conjunction puts Pluto on your planet’s exact degree, and for a while you can’t tell your ego from your obsession. A square is friction that forces a showdown with yourself over control. An opposition drags the power struggle into the open, through the people across the table from you.

Look at the site’s sample chart: born February 18, 1999, at 7:14 AM in Los Angeles. Transiting Pluto squares natal Mars at 8°02′ Scorpio. It comes within 0°51′ on May 8, 2027, and turns retrograde. The tracker marks this near miss as “Pluto stops short” so you know why 2027 already feels wired. The exact hits land on March 10, 2028, July 11, 2028 (retrograde), and January 15, 2029, before stopping 0°01′ short on October 21, 2029.

Later, Pluto squares her Lilith at 18°02′ Scorpio five times: April 14, 2034, June 24, 2034 (retrograde), February 12, 2035, September 8, 2035 (retrograde), and December 20, 2035. Finally, Pluto conjuncts her Sun at 29°30′ Aquarius on April 15, 2042, July 16, 2042 (retrograde), February 19, 2043, September 25, 2043 (retrograde), and December 28, 2043.

You read those dates on the screen and stop wondering why you picked a fight over who gets the final word on a project. No exact contacts means none of the six points sits on a degree Pluto joins, squares or opposes before 2044. That is a real result, not a broken calculator.

When Pluto walks through a house

Even when Pluto makes zero exact aspects to your planets, it spends up to two decades walking through one or two houses of your chart. A planet hit is a sharp crisis in how you act. A house transit is a slow overhaul of the arena where you live out that part of your life. What changes is what you guard, what you chase, and what you refuse to share in that specific room.

Because houses depend on the exact degree rising on the eastern horizon, the tracker needs your birth time and city to calculate Placidus house cusps. Without a birth time, you still get Sun, Venus, Mars, and Lilith aspects, but no Moon, no Ascendant, and no houses.

The yearly retrograde loop can bring Pluto back across a house boundary it has already crossed. In our February 18, 1999 sample chart, Pluto walks the 11th house now and enters the 12th on February 13, 2028. It steps back into the 11th on August 12, 2028, and returns to the 12th on December 21, 2028. During that back-and-forth across the cusp, you leave the group party early, lock your bedroom door, and stop telling your friends what you are building next.

The dark side: when obsession dresses up as love

Under a heavy Pluto transit, your fear of losing leverage turns ugly. You tell yourself you are just asking questions, just protecting your peace, just making sure they care. In reality, you are auditing their tone, checking when they were last active online, and withholding warmth until they blink first.

You would rather burn a good thing to ash than admit the other person has power over you. You pick the fight at midnight so you can be the one who walks out first. You memorize a slight from years ago and pull it out the second you feel cornered. You leave their message on read for hours just to watch them send a second one. That is Pluto at its worst: mistaking possession for intimacy and paranoia for intuition.

Let this be plain: control is never love, and behavior matters more than any sign or transit. Anyone who feels unsafe can reach The Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or thehotline.org. Astrology explains the craving for leverage inside your own head; it never excuses trapping, monitoring, or frightening another human being.

Where a Pluto transit works for you

The flip side of obsession is endurance that nobody else in the room can match. When Pluto strips away your need to be liked, it hands you back all the hours you wasted trying to look easygoing. You stop begging for a seat at tables where people talk over you.

You learn to say “that does not work for me” without a three-paragraph apology attached. You cross your name off a one-sided project, hand the folder back to the person running it, and leave on time. You look at a lopsided arrangement, name the terms required to keep you there, and walk out cleanly when they balk. The urge to control other people dries up the moment you take full command of your own standards.

People call you ruthless during a Pluto transit because you stop subsidizing their comfort with your silence. Let them talk. When Pluto finally clears your degree, you know exactly what you want and what you refuse to tolerate. You know how much you can survive on your own terms.

No birth time? Your rising sign gives the house Pluto walks until 2044. The tracker above goes to the degree.

Pluto transiting each house

Find your house in the tracker above. Between 2024 and 2044 Pluto walks one house, sometimes two.

  1. 1

Pluto transiting the 1st house You remake your face to the world so nobody can read you first.

Walking your 1st house, Pluto turns your whole presence into armor. You get sick of being approachable, readable, or easy to manage. You walk into a room, say half as much as you used to, and let the other person fill the awkward silence until they give away their angle. You strip every softening habit from your voice, your clothes, and your introductions. Nobody gets the warm version of you without earning it.

Where it works for you You command a room the second you walk in because you no longer audition for anyone’s approval.

  2. 2

Pluto transiting the 2nd house You guard what is yours like any favor is a leash.

Inside the 2nd house, Pluto targets your self-worth and your grip on what you own. You cannot stand owing anyone a thank-you. When someone offers to handle your assigned task or lend you equipment, you refuse it flatly because you know every gift comes with strings. You value your time higher, audit what you actually care about, and cut every dependency that lets another person tell you what you deserve.

Where it works for you You set your own terms in writing and never again discount yourself to keep the peace.

  3. 3

Pluto transiting the 3rd house Every casual conversation turns into an interrogation you mean to win.

Small talk vanishes when Pluto walks your 3rd house. You listen to what your sibling, neighbor, or coworker leaves out of a sentence rather than what they actually say. You write a three-line message, delete two lines because they give too much away, and send the bare question. Your everyday mind locks onto one subject for months until you know more about it than anyone in the room.

Where it works for you Your words land like a gavel because you stop wasting breath on polite filler.

  4. 4

Pluto transiting the 4th house You lock the front door and rewrite the family rules from scratch.

Down in the 4th house, Pluto digs up the unspoken rules you grew up with. You stop playing your assigned role at the holiday table. When a relative tries an old guilt line, you look at them across the plates, name what they are doing out loud, and pick up your coat. Your home stops being an open lounge for needy people and becomes a private sanctuary where only your rules apply.

Where it works for you You break generational habits by refusing to repeat the script inside your own four walls.

  5. 5

Pluto transiting the 5th house Flirting stops being a game; you want devotion or nothing at all.

Light romance bores you to tears with Pluto in the 5th house. You cannot do casual banter or half-hearted hobbies anymore. In dating and in creative work, you want the thing to consume the room. On a second date, you skip the polite chatter and ask the one question that reveals if they have nerve or just good manners. If your creative work does not scare you, you trash the draft.

Where it works for you Your creative work and desire become magnetic because you refuse to water them down for mass appeal.

  6. 6

Pluto transiting the 6th house You micromanage the daily routine until nobody can catch you slipping.

With Pluto in your 6th house, the way you run your Tuesday becomes a power play. You hate depending on sloppy coworkers or chaotic schedules. You build a system only you fully understand, take over the ugly tasks nobody else wants, and make yourself impossible to replace. When someone tries to tweak your workflow, you hand them the raw data and watch them back down.

Where it works for you Your discipline and mastery of the craft make your work the thing nobody can argue with.

  7. 7

Pluto transiting the 7th house Every partnership becomes a test of who holds the steering wheel.

Across the chart in the 7th house, Pluto brings the shadow straight into your one-on-one commitments and open rivalries. Nice, polite partnerships suffocate you; you either crave total honesty or magnetize controlling people who test your spine. You sit across from a partner, put the unspoken resentment on the table between the coffee cups, and demand to know what the deal actually is.

Where it works for you You end lopsided alliances cleanly and only sign your name next to true equals.

  8. 8

Pluto transiting the 8th house You want their darkest secret while keeping yours behind three locks.

This is Pluto’s home arena: sex, intimacy, taboo, and the leverage that comes when two people merge. With Pluto in the 8th house, surface affection feels insulting. You want to know what your partner is ashamed of, what they crave in the dark, and where their loyalty breaks. Yet the second they ask you the same question, you change the subject and guard your own weak spot.

Where it works for you You become fearless in intimacy because taboo and ugly truths no longer shock you.

  9. 9

Pluto transiting the 9th house You tear down your old beliefs and distrust every self-appointed guru.

Moving through the 9th house, Pluto wrecks secondhand philosophy. The teachers, degrees, or worldviews you used to quote suddenly look like cheap propaganda. You sit in a lecture or meeting, spot the hidden agenda behind the big inspiring speech, and stop nodding along. You obsess over finding your own proof, reading the primary source, and building a creed that survived real fire.

Where it works for you Nobody can sell you a cult or a slogan once you have dismantled your own dogma.

  10. 10

Pluto transiting the 10th house Being liked in public means nothing if you do not run the room.

At the top of the chart in the 10th house, Pluto makes you allergic to middle-management praise. A pat on the head from an authority figure insults you; you want the final say on the project. You study how reputation works and strip the amateur habits out of your public image. You put your name only on work that shifts the balance of power in your field.

Where it works for you You build an iron reputation by taking full responsibility for the hard calls.

  11. 11

Pluto transiting the 11th house You purge the friend group and only keep alliances that hold under fire.

With Pluto in the 11th house, big, sunny social circles start looking fake. You watch how the group chat trades favors and who gets thrown under the bus when the mood turns. Quietly, you mute the thread, leave the committee, and narrow your circle down to three people who actually show up when things get ugly. You want real influence in a network, not a hundred acquaintances.

Where it works for you You stop chasing popularity and build a tight network that moves when you call.

  12. 12

Pluto transiting the 12th house Your real life happens off the record where nobody can audit you.

Hidden in the 12th house, Pluto drags your oldest blind spots out of the closet when nobody is watching. You become fiercely protective of your solitude and your unshared plans. While everyone else announces their next move online, you work in a closed room for a year without dropping a single hint. You confront the way you used to sabotage yourself right before the finish line.

Where it works for you You starve your worst self-sabotage by doing your hardest work in complete privacy.

Questions

How long does a Pluto transit last?

A single Pluto transit to a planet stays within a 1° orb for a year to three years. Because the planet retrogrades for about five months every year, it crosses the exact degree up to three or five times before moving on.

What house is Pluto transiting in my chart?

Because Pluto is in Aquarius now, it walks whichever house Aquarius occupies in your birth chart. Enter your birth date, exact time, and city into the calculator above to see your Placidus house dates, or check your rising sign for the whole-sign house.

When does Pluto leave Aquarius?

The first step into Pisces happens on March 9, 2043, followed by a retrograde back into Aquarius on September 1, 2043. It leaves Aquarius for good on January 19, 2044. Until then, it moves only about 1.5° forward per year through Aquarius.

Why does Pluto hit the same point three times?

Each year in May, Pluto turns retrograde, then turns direct in October. It crosses your natal degree moving forward, backs over it during the retrograde months, and crosses it a third time once it goes direct again.

What does Pluto conjunct my Sun mean?

A conjunction occurs when transiting Pluto reaches your natal Sun’s zodiacal degree, stripping away your old persona and forcing a total overhaul of your authority. You stop apologizing for wanting power and cut out every role where you had to play small.

Do I need my birth time for Pluto transits?

You do not need a birth time to get exact Pluto transit dates to your Sun, Venus, Mars, and Black Moon Lilith. You do need an accurate birth time to track transits to your Moon, your Ascendant, and the houses Pluto walks through.
