  • Psyche conjunct your Uranus0°58′

A tight Psyche contact means blind faith feels like a trap: you reach for the light switch, ask the question that breaks the mood, and then work twice as hard to prove your devotion. Your edge is seeing the real face behind the promise before you hand over your life.

Snakes, stone, and a rock found at Toulouse

Medusa (149) was spotted from Toulouse, France, in 1875: a main-belt rock that laps the Sun in about 3.2 years. In Greek myth, Medusa was the mortal Gorgon with living snakes for hair whose direct gaze turned any onlooker to stone. Later poets wrote that she was once a woman punished and transformed into a monster, turning the gaze and the snakes into the signs everyone feared.

High in the night sky, the eclipsing binary star Algol marks Medusa’s head in the constellation Perseus, which you can check separately in our fixed-star calculator. Asteroid Medusa brings that same Gorgon myth down to the moving scale of your birth chart. When it forms a conjunction or opposition within 2° to a planet, mean Lilith, or the Ascendant, it hands that specific part of your nature a petrifying defense.

You learned early that showing softness got you blamed, so you grew armor that scares people off before they try anything. Others call you intimidating when you are simply sitting still with your coffee and listening. Your weapon is a look so flat and unblinking that the loudest person at the dinner table loses their nerve mid-sentence and changes the subject.

When Medusa sits on your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant

With Medusa conjunct your Sun, your core identity fuses with the role of the designated monster. You take dark pride in being the one relative or coworker nobody dares to cross twice. When someone accuses you of being heartless during an argument, you do not explain your motives or plead for fairness; you agree with their insult on the spot so they back away faster.

Medusa on the Moon puts the Gorgon inside your private feelings and your instinctive need for safety. You do not cry in front of someone who breaks your trust. Instead, you sit on the edge of the couch, delete the entire text thread, mute their notifications, and look right through them like a pane of glass the next time you pass in a hallway. You freeze your own reaction first so nobody gets the satisfaction of watching you flinch.

When Medusa touches the Ascendant, the 1st-house doorway of looks, posture, and first impressions, the snakes are on your face before you say hello. Acquaintances confess months later that they were terrified to speak to you the first night you met. You walk into a crowded bar with an unbothered stillness that makes loud, insecure people scramble for your approval, and you refuse to turn their unease into an approval game.

Desire and fury: Medusa on Venus or Mars

Venus rules attraction, appetite, and what you value in affection; Medusa conjunct Venus mixes beauty with a clear threat. You want to be desired from a safe distance, admired like a carved statue that nobody is allowed to touch without asking first. The second a date gets too familiar or assumes you are already won over, you pull your hand back across the tablecloth, drop every trace of warmth from your voice, and watch them fumble for the check.

Charm pulls people into your orbit, and sudden indifference keeps them from getting a grip on you. You never beg to be picked. Your power here is setting an exact, unapologetic price on your time and walking out the door the instant someone tries to get your loyalty on a discount.

Mars is raw drive, conflict, and the urge to act; Medusa on Mars turns hot anger into dry ice. You do not yell in a fight or throw dishes across a kitchen. While the other person paces the rug and raises their voice, you lower yours by an octave and stare straight at the bridge of their nose until they forget what they were arguing about. You win conflicts by refusing to blink first.

Two exiles on one degree: Medusa conjunct Lilith

Mean Black Moon Lilith is the lunar apogee, the far point of the Moon’s orbit, marking where you were shamed for wanting too much or refusing to kneel. When Medusa sits within 2° of your Lilith, two banished figures form a tight conjunction in your chart. People do not merely dislike your disobedience; they treat your basic boundaries like an act of aggression.

You stop trying to sound sweet when someone pushes past your first refusal. If a partner or manager tries to guilt you into shrinking, you hand them the cold villain they accused you of being, minus the dramatic speeches. Behavior matters more than any placement, and anyone who feels unsafe can reach The Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or thehotline.org. You type a four-word reply with a period at the end, close the laptop, and let them sit alone with the silence.

That double placement gives you an instant radar for fake politeness. You spot the person in the room who demands a warm tone only to keep everyone else compliant, and you refuse to smile on cue.

The opposition and the slow planets

Across the chart, Medusa becomes a face you keep meeting in other people. Instead of wearing the Gorgon’s face yourself, you meet her across a desk, or you provoke that frozen panic in other people without realizing how hard you are glaring. In the myth, Perseus needed a shiny shield to look at Medusa indirectly; with an opposition to your Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars, partners and rivals act like that bronze surface, reflecting your own buried rage back at you until you claim it.

When Medusa touches Mercury by conjunction or opposition, your everyday mind and speech carry the venom. You sit over a draft for ten minutes, pare a paragraph down to one dry sentence that leaves no room for a reply, and hit send. Contacts to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto move much slower and belong to a wider age group rather than your private habits alone.

If Medusa sits on or across from your Saturn or Pluto, the slow planet gives the contact a cohort theme; the asteroid’s own motion sets its duration. A tight aspect from that slow planet to your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or inner planets adds personal specificity.

The stare as an asset, and how to check

A tight Medusa contact is not a curse to break; it is a built-in detector for demands that you perform warmth. While other people waste years writing three-page explanations to relatives or exes who are committed to misreading them, you know how to shut the door on the first try and keep your composure intact. Your refusal to perform warmth on command saves you from users who rely on polite guilt to get their way.

The calculator at the top of this page checks your birth chart using JPL Horizons tables for births between 1920 and 2035, accurate to about 0.01°. We count only conjunctions and oppositions within 2° to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, mean Lilith, and, when you enter an exact birth time, your Ascendant.

We do not give sign or house readings for Medusa. An asteroid takes 3.2 years to circle the zodiac, so its sign says nothing sharp about you by itself; without a 2° hit to one of your points, it stays silent in your chart.

Questions

What does Asteroid Medusa mean in a birth chart?

Asteroid Medusa (149) shows where you use a cold, unblinking defense to protect yourself and where others cast you as the monster when you refuse to back down. On this site it only counts when it forms a conjunction or opposition within 2° to a planet, your Ascendant, or Black Moon Lilith. Without a tight contact, the asteroid does not run hot in your chart.

How rare is a tight Medusa contact in astrology?

Roughly one chart in four—23.9% in our simulation of 20,000 US birth charts—has Medusa conjunct or opposite at least one planet, the Ascendant, or mean Lilith within 2°. Everyone else has no active Medusa contact at all. Getting a ‘no contact’ result from the calculator above is the most common outcome.

What is the difference between Asteroid Medusa and the fixed star Algol?

Asteroid Medusa (149) is a solar-system rock discovered in 1875 with a 3.2-year orbit that can land in any sign of the zodiac. Algol is a distant eclipsing binary star in the constellation Perseus that stays at 25°–27° Taurus for everyone born between 1920 and 2035. Both carry the Gorgon symbolism, but Algol is much rarer, touching a point within 1° in only 4.5% of charts.

Does Asteroid Medusa in a sign or house matter?

No, this site does not read signs or houses for any of the eight dark asteroids. Medusa’s sign alone does not identify which of your chart points it touches, so it tells you nothing specific about this contact pattern. Only a 2° conjunction or opposition to one of your own chart points switches the theme on.

What does Medusa conjunct Venus look like in relationships?

Medusa conjunct Venus within 2° blends attraction with a sharp defensive edge. You draw people in easily, but the moment someone crosses a line or acts entitled to your attention, your affection shuts off completely. You would rather end a romance on the spot than let a partner see you plead.
